Meet Your Judges

Judge: Leanne Mai-ly Hilgart

Leanne Mai-ly Hilgart is the Founder & Creative Director of Vaute Couture, the vegan fashion house that spent a year developing the first chic winter coat that was at once warm enough for a Chicago winter and completely animal free, and represents a voice for the animals in the fashion industry that believes animals are not ours to wear. Since launching last fall, Vaute Couture has been featured on the cover of VegNews Magazine, in Marie Claire Magazine, on FOX’s Bones, in Oprah.com, and has several celebrity fans including Alicia Silverstone, Emily Deschanel, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Ally Sheedy.  TeenVogue.com said, “We can’t think of a better way to stay warm this winter.” Leanne has been named 1 of 7 Top Emerging Green Designers (Ecouterre), 20 under 30 To Watch  (VegNews Magazine) and 1 of 40 Redefining Green (Grist.org). Vaute Couture donates all profits from one of its’ coat styles to the Farm Sanctuary. Leanne has been coordinating campaigns for animals since she was 8 years old and has been vegan for 10 years, this summer.

Judge: Chloé Jo Davis

Chloé Jo Davis, is an activist, writer, green expert, animal rescue warrior, radio host, online personality and ethical fashion expert.  Beyond being named one of the “Hottest Jews in the World,” by HEEB Magazine,  Chloé is a bona fide green, vegan vixen. She lives in NYC with her Husband, her newborn son Panther Britain, and their five pets where she works daily on her life’s mission, to green the world…one person and animal at a time. She makes strides toward that end each day as the editor-in-chief of GirlieGirlArmy.com, a green guide to glamazon living that boasts more than 300,000 readers. You’ve also seen Chloé as celebrity dirt’s host on RiverWired and in an Errol Morris-directed, national commercial for Silk Soy Milk. Plus, you’ve heard her on the air waves weighing in on the topics that she cares about on a variety of radio shows from Air America to Q102. Chloė was honored this year for her Philanthropic Achievements by Pay it Fashion Forward and LL Cool J, and voted an “Ethical Fashion Icon” by VegNews Magazine. The good news is you’ll be hearing a lot more from Chloé as a book on compassionate glamazon living and a television show in development on the same topic are what’s in store for ‘10! You are as likely to see her front row at a fashion show air kissing her famous friends, as you leading a demonstration for a cause she’s passionate about… and that darlings, is what a glamazon is all about.

Judge: Dan Mims

In 2006, Dan graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with Honors in Philosophy (and hundreds of hours of activism under his non-leather belt). As he had always intended, Dan immediately moved to New York City. He did not intend, however, that New York would move him as much as it has — catalyzing a deep passion and respect for personal style and presentation. After going vegan six years earlier, and after working for nearly four years in media sales and marketing for Spin Magazine and Yahoo!, Dan recently founded The Ethical Man — which may be the first-ever online boutique dedicated to cruelty-free men’s fashion — to bring style, value, and peace of mind to ethical men around the world. He also drums for vegan band HERE (set to release their first album in Fall 2010) and manages an underground art space, The Yolk.

Judge: Gina Ferraraccio

Growing up in Tennessee, Gina always knew she wanted to do something where she could make a difference in the world for both the style-conscious and the animals. Passionate about fashion since a young age, shoes especially always had a special place in her heart; yet as a vegetarian, she would always feel an internal conflict when shopping and handing over payment for yet another gorgeous pair of leather shoes. This led to NYC and Parsons School of Design, where she finally found her calling. While earning a BBA in Design Management, Gina learned everything she could about the back- end business side of the fashion industry, as well as footwear design. After interning at the likes of Anna Sui and Bergdorf Goodman, she worked for 5 years in the private label lingerie industry and gained invaluable real-world fashion and business experience, before striking out on her own with Cri de Coeur in 2008. Press and buyers from around the world heralded the debut collection, and the brand has since established itself as the pioneering stylish, vegan accessories company.

Judge: Julie Dicterow

Julie has been involved with the creative arts for all of her adult life. After completing her Bachelors Degree at UCLA in 2003, she co-founded Big Mouse, an eco-friendly t-shirt and accessory design company. Being a vegetarian and environmentalist for years, Julie wanted to be a part of the new green movement that would meet high-end fashion expectations. Therefore, in 2008, Julie Dicterow attended Parsons New School of Design in New York City. While acquiring certification in Fashion Design, she studied under haute couture designer Lucie Porges of Trigere and challenged her mentors and colleagues to discuss greener and more humane avenues of the design process. In 2009, Julie met Cri de Coeur designer, Gina Ferraraccio. After working only a few months with the company, she realized that she and Gina had similar aesthetics and ideals about fashion design, and so they partnered together in order to expand the business.
